John F. Frost
I’m a commercial litigator who represents startups, venture funds, executives, investors, and entrepreneurs in courts and arbitral bodies throughout the country, and through the provision of fractional in-house services, including litigation management. Past clients include some of the largest tech companies in the world, top-tier venture funds, unicorn founders, c-suite executives, and leaders in Silicon Valley. While I’m a skilled legal tactician and aggressive litigator, I approach my work pragmatically and creatively to advocate for my clients and resolve their legal disputes. I’ve been named a Northern California Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine for the last four years, an honor reserved for 2.5% of U.S. lawyers.
I’m a generalist by nature, focusing on cases involving contract disputes, founders’ disputes, private company insider trading, employee mobility, trade secrets, fraud, and other business torts. I have unique expertise in representing nonparties subpoenaed in civil and criminal matters, which is particularly important to tech companies seeking to protect their confidential business information and ensure they protect user data appropriately. I’m also proud to represent survivors who take action to stop abuse and harassment, and to hold those responsible to account.
Before founding Frost LC, I practiced at the boutique litigation firm Lewis & Llewellyn LLP for eight years. I also served as a judicial fellow for the Honorable Joseph C. Spero, Chief Magistrate Judge of the Northern District of California, a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, and as a post-bar judicial fellow in the California Superior Court, County of Kern.
I received my Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and my Bachelor of Arts in History from UCLA. When I’m not working, I enjoy outdoor adventures, live comedy, and spending time with my family in San Francisco.
